Welcome to Flukle – we’re in the early stages of beta testing at the moment so i’m aware that we still have a few things to iron out with the interface and workings, if you notice anything unusual it would be a big help if you could let me know, I’d also love to hear any feedback and suggestions.
Seeing as this is the first post on the flukle blog, I thought I’d give a bit of background info about the site and its development.
I’m a big fan of Twitter (follow me here or follow flukle here) and liked what people like Noah at Twitpic did to allow Twitterers to share photos with each other. I was over in Dublin for some nights out with a mate and we were taking loads of photos and added to facebook when we got back. I thought it would be cool to build an app that took the best bits of Twitter and Twitpic and combined them so you could follow your mates and see what they were up to in real time. Other sites in our space doing really well are DailyBooth (focused on photos of yourself) and Posterous (more than just photos) – hopefully there is room for us and our slightly different take on things.
I started a design for the site on April 7th 2009, the site was originally going to be called “Snapdater” but I decided on something shorter and snappier. Here is some initial (boring!) designs I did for the Snapdater name :
I personally have done all the design work and html/css templates and the programming was done by one talented guy called Donatas Dautartas – its taken a bit longer than we planned but we’re finally at the stage to accept testers.
We have an iPhone app programmed and ready to be submitted to the app store once the site is open to the public – that will be released very early 2010. At the moment the app just allows you to take and upload pictures, the second version will allow you to see your timeline and follow friends updates as well.
